Most visitors decide in five seconds. Yours are deciding right now.

A business website has one job: make a stranger understand what you do, believe you can do it, and know what to do next. Most sites fail at the first part and never get a chance at the other two. We build sites measured on enquiries, not impressions.

Understood in five seconds Built around the enquiry Yours to edit Measured on enquiries

THE SITUATION

Nobody reads your website. They scan it and leave.

The uncomfortable truth about your homepage is that almost nobody reads it. They arrive, spend a few seconds working out whether they are in the right place, and either scroll or leave. Everything you wrote below the fold is read by the minority who survived that decision.

This is why so many redesigns change nothing. The site gets a new colour palette, a bigger photograph and a slider, and the same proportion of visitors still cannot tell what the business actually does. The problem was never that it looked dated. It was that it never answered the question.

SYMPTOMS WE HEAR MOST

Visitors arrive, look at one page, and leave without contacting anyone You explain what you do better in a two-minute call than the site does in ten pages Nobody internally can update it without raising a job with an agency It looks acceptable and produces almost no enquiries

HOW THE WORK RUNS

Write it before you design it.

Almost every failed website was designed before anyone decided what it needed to say. The order below is not a preference.

WEEK 1

Decide what it has to say

Who is arriving, what they need to understand, and what counts as a successful visit. We write the homepage sentence first, because if it cannot be written the site cannot be designed.

WEEKS 1–2

Structure before styling

Page inventory, navigation and the journey from arrival to enquiry. Fewer pages, each earning its place, with the enquiry never more than one step away.

WEEKS 2–4

Design and build

Interface design, responsive build, performance and accessibility as part of the work rather than a later fix. Built on a stack your team can edit without calling us.

LAUNCH AND AFTER

Measure the right thing

Tracking on enquiries rather than pageviews, so the next round of changes is decided by evidence instead of opinion.

TAKE THE FIVE-SECOND TEST

Look at a homepage for five seconds. Then see what you kept.

This is the test every visitor runs on you, whether you designed for it or not. Pick a homepage, watch it for five seconds, and see what you actually walked away with.

0 OF 3 ANSWERED IN FIVE SECONDS What the business does Never answered Who it is for Never answered What to do next Never answered You learned nothing. Every word of that could describe a law firm, a logistics company or a bakery. Run this on ours

It reads as professional because it uses professional words. But it names no service, no customer and no action. Most SME homepages open exactly like this, and the visitor's five seconds are spent finding out they have to keep looking.

Run this on your own homepage. Show it to someone outside your industry for five seconds, take it away, and ask them the same three questions. Their answer is your brief.

HONEST SCOPE

Is this the right thing to buy?

GOOD FIT WHEN

Visitors cannot tell what you do without being told You cannot update your own site without raising a job The site looks acceptable and produces almost nothing

WAIT, OR DO SOMETHING ELSE FIRST

The site works and produces enquiries — spend the money on traffic instead What you sell is still changing weekly; wait until the offer settles You want a redesign because it looks dated, and nothing else is wrong

COMMON QUESTIONS

The things people ask first.

How many pages do we actually need?

Fewer than you have been told. A focused business site is often eight to twelve pages: home, one page per service, about, contact, and evidence. Every additional page is something to write, keep accurate and eventually explain away when it goes stale.

Can we update it ourselves?

Yes, and you should be able to. We build on a CMS your team can use, and we train whoever will be doing it. If updating your own site requires raising a job with an agency, the agency is the product and you are the customer of it.

What about WordPress?

It is fine for a straightforward brochure site with someone maintaining the plugins. It becomes expensive when the site needs to do something specific, because you end up assembling plugins that were built for someone else's business. We would tell you plainly which situation you are in.

Do we need new copy, or can we reuse ours?

Usually the copy is the problem, not the design. We do not need you to write it, but we do need the truth from you: who buys, why they hesitate, and what you actually do. We turn that into the site's language.

How long does it take?

Four to eight weeks for most business sites. The variable is almost never design or build — it is how long copy sits waiting for approval. Projects that stall stall there.

Will it rank on Google?

The build gives you the foundation: clean structure, fast pages, proper markup, one page per thing you sell. Ranking beyond that is ongoing work rather than a build deliverable, and we would rather say so than imply a new site fixes search on its own.

Show us your homepage. We will tell you what it says.

Send us the link and we will come back with what a stranger takes from it in five seconds, and what we would change first.

We use what you send and basic submission data to assess and reply to your enquiry, prevent misuse and keep an enquiry record. See our privacy policy.
